Tamarind (imli)

Being rich in vitamin C, it helps in getting relief from cold. A thin broth of tamarind pulp and pepper, boiled together, strained and runk hot, helps in colds, coughs and clearing nasal blockage.

Medicinal Properties
  • Blood Clot/Swelling due to injuries:
    Remove the seeds and fibre Mix 3 tbsp of the pulp with 1 tsp salt and 1/2 cup water. Heat the mixture in a container. Apply semi-hot on the affected areas. Don't apply water the same day. Repeat for three days.
  • Indigestion/ Loss of Appetite/ Tastelessness:
    Make a soup of tomato with tamarind pulp, cumin, coriander seeds, black pepper, curry leaves, ginger and garlic. Drink hot. This soup is also known as rasam.
  • Fevers:
    Mix 1 tsp of tamarind pulp with 1 cup water and drink.
  • Sore throat:
    Mix the pulp with warm water and gargle.
